Multi-Layer Sheet Mask
Opportunity
Environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, sun exposure and air pollution can affect facial skin. Hence, skincare is needed to maintain skin health. Factors that affect facial skincare absorption are concentration of skincare ingredient, contact duration, solubility, skin condition and location. Stratum corneum is the outermost skin layer protecting underlying tissue. Exfoliation is needed to remove dead skin cells to improve absorption efficiency. Facial skin with uneven thickness requires deeper exfoliation in areas that are thicker. However, conventional sheet masks have limitations, including being designed for a single function and even thickness, and are unable to cater to different facial skin thicknesses. Multiple sheet masks or combination with other cosmetic products are needed to address this issue.
The global beauty facial masks market is anticipated to be valued at US$6.8 billion in 2022 and further expand at a CAGR of 5.1% to reach US$ 11.2 billion by the end of 2032.
Technology
This technology relates to a multi-layered sheet mask with different functions. The first layer is porous and can perform exfoliation to remove dead skin cells while the second and third layers contain active ingredients for moisturization and other functions. The microneedles in the second layer facilitate the delivery of active ingredients to the dermis layer of the facial skin for better absorption. Different zones of the facial skin with specific needs can be targeted based on skin thickness and condition for enhanced cosmetic effects.
Besides the face, this technology is also applicable for other parts of the body. The method may be adaptable to create additional layer and to offer additional cosmetic treatment to skin.
